D2AMAJOE

Established in 2010 by visionary artist Kommanda Obbs, D2AMAJOE (Di-thu-a-ma-jwe), meaning “Boundary Breakers,” emerged as a vital component of the Ts’epe Sethuamajoe Art Movement. This collective is deeply rooted in holistic Pan-African ideology, aiming to instill confidence, positive identity, and purpose within the African personality. As a voice for the Southern African perspective, D2AMAJOE seeks to address the complexities of the African situation through their art. In response to the evolution of patriotic Hip-Hop sub-genres such as Motswako, Spaza, Trap, Drill, New Age Kwaito, and SkhandiHop, D2AMAJOE pioneered the TS’EPE sub-genre, blending Hip-Hop with traditional and modern African musical styles. This unique sound is characterized by its authenticity, richness, and wholesomeness. Through TS’EPE, D2AMAJOE challenges the Western perception of rap as a platform for explicit content and instead offers a positive narrative that promotes cultural upliftment, self-confidence, and the celebration of African heritage.

The collective’s music not only encourages fun and dance but also serves as a powerful tool for expression, celebrating unsung heroes, challenging neo-colonialism and imperialism, and advocating for African unity. Since its inception, D2AMAJOE has released several critically acclaimed albums as part of the Ts’epe Tape series, featuring a diverse range of artists. These albums include:

– Ts’epe Tape Vol. 1 (2012), featuring Ifani, Kommanda Obbs, Tumi/Stogie T, Red Button, Morena Leraba, and other notable artists

– Ts’epe Tape Vol. 2 (Nalane), featuring Kulax, Sneiman, Kommanda Obbs, Majuka, K’ul Smoko, and other prominent artists

– Ts’epe Tape Vol. 3 (2019), showcasing Jimmy Wiz, Kt, Golden Shovel,  Kommanda Obbs, Majuka, Sneiman, Golden Shovel, Novere and other talented contributors

Currently, D2AMAJOE is working on the fourth installment of the Ts’epe Tape series, with Ts’epe Tape Vol. 4 nearing completion. As the movement continues to grow, it has garnered recognition from respected figures in the industry, solidifying D2AMAJOE’s position as a leading force in the TS’EPE sub-genre and Pan-African artistic expression.
